NNNS What’s on in 2026 –  


Saturday 9th May 10:30 until 14:30 (optional later) 

Holkham walk towards the dunes led by Andy Bloomfield (Senior Warden, Holkham Nature Reserve) With Tim Hodge & Nick Owens

Description: General wildlife walk.Andy Bloomfield, the Senior Warden at Holkham Nature Reserve has kindly offered to accompany us and take us into some of the private parts of the Estate, so we are widening our focus to include wildlife in general. We probably will not get as far as Gun Hill.

Where and Parking:Meet by the gate at the seaward end of Lady Anne’s Drive (The Lookout café end) TF 89101 44753. w3w moves.fish.nodes Parking is pay and display (Cost £7.50 for 4 hours). There is a possibility of some discount for the parking so please check with us at the meeting point first, if possible. Lunch  – Bring lunch or purchase at the Lookout café (they sometimes run out). Toilets at the Lookout café.

PS –  if you much are later than 10.30 we will be moving off slowly westwards on the coastal path (main path) so please catch us up. Please let Nick or Tim know if you will be returning to the car park before we set off back from the walk. Nick’s mobile is 07502 319177

 


Sunday 24th May 10.30am until lunch (optional pm)

Foulden Common let by Francis Farrow, a very knowledgeable naturalist.

Description: A Spring Walk for Spring migrants and butterflies. The 139 hectare Common is a mosaic of chalk grassland and wet heathland.

Recorders Meeting at NWT Sweetbriar Marshes

Description: 

Leads for the day are Mark Hoar for  the NWT lead and David Harper for the NNNS.

Agenda:
10am arrive; tea, coffee and biscuits. Discussion of plans for collections
10.30-12.30 Collections on site as agreed at discussion.
12.30-1400. Lunch – bring own; tea coffee and soft drinks provided.
1400-1600 Brief account by Recorders of their collections from SBM, highlighting rarities and any interesting observations.
Sequence of speakers to be arranged.

Description: Pond/Pingo Restoration & Agri-Environment Work at Home Breck Farm, East Harling.

Description: NNNS Recording Day at Astley Estate

NNNS/NFG Led by Jo Parmenter a leading UK Botanist.

Description: A wildflower recording and learning day.

Norfolk Rivers Trust

Description: The NNNS will be supporting the Norfolk Rivers Trust work by supplying post project recordings – Location to be decided.


Saturday 25th July 10.30am until lunch (optional pm)

Winterton walk led by expert naturalists Nick Owen and Tim Hodge.

Description: A focus on Bees, Insects, Butterflies et al.

Where &Parking: Parking. w3w bluff.tripled.donates. NR29 4AJ. Very small charge take cash.


Sunday 2nd August 10.30am until lunch (optional pm)

Birds and Butterflies at Horsey led by Francis Farrow, a very knowledgeable Naturalist.

Fungi at Bretts Wood, Thursford led by Geoff Kibby.

Description: We return to Bretts Wood with a UK Fungi Expert – Geoff Kibby.

Sunday 25th October

Fungi at Litcham Common led by Geoff Kibby, UK Fungi Expert.

Where &Parking: Postcode for the village of Litcham is PE32 2NS. W3w stylist.letter.laugh. Drive a little way through Litcham, in the Dereham direction, but while just about to leave Litcham take the first turning right which is just at the start of the few allotments which are on the right.
