Meetings 2020
Beginners are always very welcome – the only equipment needed is a handlens (x10 or x20) and some paper packets (old envelopes are fine) for collecting specimens. Meetings begin at 10.30am and will only be cancelled if there is snow or hard frost.

The Norfolk and Suffolk Bryological Group (a sub-group of the British Bryological Society) is an informal interest group with no formal status or legal identity. All attendees at the events set out in the annual programme participate in those events entirely at their own risk and no responsibility for any injury loss or damage shall lie against the organisers of the events. The distribution of the programme of events is not intended to and does not form any contract or any other legal relationship between the organisers and the participants.

Saturday 4 January 2020 – Witton Hall, Old Hall Road, North Walsham NR28 9UF – a woodland garden. Parking at the hall. Access off the N-S road at TG 3185 3166 onto small road called Briar Lane on Street Map.

Sunday 19 January 2020 – Hills & Holes, Great Hockham, a mix of dry and damp woodland, pingoes and grassland. Park opposite Sewage Works at TL 9524 9156 on FC track, being careful not to block any access.

Sunday 2 February 2020 – morning: meet at Wormegay church TF 673 120 We can also walk down to the northern part of Shouldham Warren. Leave there at 12.30pm to go short distance to old carrstone quarry, Blackborough, home of King’s Lynn Field Archery Group. To reach the quarry, at the southern end of Mill Drove (TF 6724 1428) turn east where there are two rough tracks – take the right hand one. Hopefully we will be in convoy.

Sunday 16 February 2020 – return visit to Hassingham (current focus of NNNS research committee) to look at a different area: water, wet & dry woodland and damp grassland. Park behind Broad Cottage at approx TG368057 (postcode NR13 4HH). To get there from Brundall, drive east along Brundall High Street & take 1st right after railway bridge, marked Stone Rd and signed ‘Recycling Centre’. At 2nd crossroads turn right downhill, again marked Stone Rd. Follow road round to left, passing brick & asbestos barn on right. After 200yds turn right at post box(Carrs Lane). 250 yds before Broad Cottage there are park railings & laurel hedge on right. At end of railings, turn right through gateway. Broad Cottage is by the water, parking behind.

Saturday 29 February 2020 – Joint meeting with Cambridge Group at Dersingham Bog SSSI. Meet at Wolferton Car Park at TF6627 2834 situated west of the A149.

Sunday 15 March 2020 – Somerleyton Estate, Suffolk. A return visit to this varied site, looking again at more of the woodland, wet in places. Park in the wider verge on the road between Ashbyhall Farm and Decoy Lodge at TG 4927 0004.
